A Home for Our Community, A Legacy for the Future
We are building the first Nigerian American Community Center in New York’s Capital District — a space for culture, education, and connection
About the Project
The Association of Nigerians in the Capital District (ANCD), through its ANCD Foundation, has acquired 3.29 acres of land at 649 Sand Creek Road, Colonie, NY.
Here, we are building a 20,000 sq. ft. Nigerian American Community Center — the first of its kind in the Capital District.
This center will be a multi-functional hub for cultural celebrations, community events, education, daycare, professional services, religious and social gatherings, and will include both indoor and outdoor facilities — serving both the Nigerian American community and the wider Capital Region.
A Hub for Culture, Connection, and Growth
This is more than a building; it’s a foundation for a stronger, more connected community. The Nigerian American Community Center will be a multi-functional facility serving not only the Nigerian American community but also our wider neighbors across the region. We are building a place where everyone is welcome.
A Space for Every Need
The center’s design is thoughtfully crafted to maximize its impact, with a total built-up area of approximately 20,000 square feet indoors and an additional 10,000 square feet of outdoor space.
Community & Public Engagement
Designed for easy access and flexible use, the ground floor is where our community will gather.
Main Event Hall
A versatile space with a 350-person capacity, perfect for weddings, cultural events, and community meetings. Flexible partitions will allow us to host multiple smaller events simultaneously
Daycare Center
A dedicated, secure area for our youngest community members, with a capacity for up to 50 children. The daycare will feature child-friendly rooms, an indoor play area, and secure access to a fenced outdoor play area
Commercial Kitchen
A fully equipped, commercial-grade kitchen to support large-scale catering for all events
Public Amenities
Welcoming reception and lobby areas, public restrooms, and administrative offices for smooth operations.
Education, Offices & Programs
The upper floor is dedicated to personal and professional development.
Classrooms & Training Rooms
Three large classrooms will host after-school programs, language classes, tutoring, and workshops for all ages
Professional Offices
Four to six flexible office units will be available for lease to professionals, including legal and health services, creating a hub for business and expertise
Support Spaces
This floor will also house a library, kitchenette, break room, and administrative offices for the ANCD
Outdoor Cultural Space
Our 10,000-square-foot outdoor space will be a beautifully landscaped lawn, ideal for outdoor cultural performances, community picnics, and open-air festivities.
How You Can Help
